Kniphofia 'Little Maid' is in full bloom. Butter-yellow pokers stick up above bright-green grassy foliage. Last year it was nearly pulled out...Slugs and snails were eating the flower stems causing them to flop...But this year the slimy pests are under control and the plant looks great. Other than the slugs, it has been a very low care plant, moderate water & no fertilizer; the flowers don't need staking, just deadheading; in late February cut back the old foliage. Sarah got this plant as a sample from Proven Winners, it should be available at independent nurseries and garden centers.
