Well, it is the end of September and I have just found the first somewhat red tomato! Wow, we really planted them too late. It is tough being a garden designer...At the prime planting time I am swamped with clients to help, so, my garden has to wait. But maybe that is why I have lettuce and other greens to pick through the winter while other people pick theirs up at the grocery store; my time is in January!
So the big challenge will be to decide when to give up/move the tomato plants to the garage...Too early and they may not ripen...But too late and the winter greens crops will really suffer. I had better start looking for green tomato recipe's. The real drag is that we grow the tomatoes for drying, they really need to be ripe.
