Where have we been?

I have been creating gardens...some for clients, one special one for my Mom.

Not many days after may last post (in June 2008), my Mom died unexpectedly after routine surgery. It was a huge blow to us all. Mom was an avid gardener and had recently moved into a new home where she planned many years of gardening. The new property was small and in desperate need of a transformation. I designed a hardscape plan for her and my Pop; Mom was to do all of the plant planning/planting.

Her death came soon after the hardscape was installed, she had only had a few plants in the ground, but had a ton of plants in pots. I came up with a rough planting plan based on the plants she had already purchased and then in August we gathered all of her gardening friends to help plant the garden; many people brought plant starts from their own gardens, everyone brought some food, and everyone shared memories of my Mom as we planted HER garden.

My Mom's Front Garden, soon after planting, August 2008

The Garden in October, 2009

The house has since been sold to young couple with small children...I know my Mom would be pleased that a family moved into the house with her garden, and, I know she would be happy that I am helping them to learn how to garden and make her garden their own.

I started this post back in September 2008...I have missed this online journal of my garden and my dogs...but for some reason I just haven't been able to get back to it until now; I guess now it's just time to move on.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom.
I took a quick look at your blog. It's very nice. Great garden and great dogs. I'm lucky that my dogs don't like vegetable, so I'm not worry that they will eat them but they do love to dig!

Sorry to hear of your loss - it never hurts less, but it does get easier to bear the pain.

Welcome back - Gardening and the dogs have to help :).
