Eggplant
We got such a late start on the vegetable garden this summer...But we have just harvested some great eggplant. They are the Opus variety from New Dimension Seeds. Their seed packet says they are good for eggplant Parmesan and I agree. They are thin skinned and very sweet, they are the shape and size of a soft-ball.
Eggplant are an excellent garden plant; they have great purple flowers, large interesting leaves, and very ornamental fruit. The dogs haven't bothered them much; one day I saw Basil licking one of the fruits, I told him to "leave it", and he didn't bother it again. Basil probably liked the feel of the smooth skin.
